San Miguel de Allende Hotels Old and New

Any San Miguel de Allende resident will tell you, the allure of their city is the historic feel – architecture dating back to 1542, picturesque tree-lined streets, gardens overflowing with flowers, cobblestone streets and the faint sounds of church bells and mariachi bands. Protected as a historic monument by the Mexican government in 1926 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, it’s difficult for such a charming place to stay off the radar for very long.

In September 2010, Dallas-based Rosewood will be adding to the roster of San Miguel de Allende hotels. The current accommodations include stately manors up for rent, cozy bed and breakfasts opened by enthusiastic expats, clean backpacker’s hostels and a handful of plush resorts. The latest addition, “Rosewood Artesana,” will be located on a 5.2-hectare lot with a perfect view of the pastel pink, gothic-spire Parroquia church and situated right next to the Instituto de Allende art school. The five-star spa resort will offer 65 guest suites and two presidential suites. The newest of the San Miguel de Allende hotels will feature colonial architecture, hand-crafted wrought iron doors, carved volcanic limestone and outdoor dining patios.

Rosewood Artesana joins the ranks with other top-notch San Miguel de Allende hotels like Dos Casas, Casa Quetzal, Casa Los Olivos, Casa de Sierra Nevada, Casa Calderoni, Hacienda Las Trancas and Casa Schuck. These boutique San Miguel de Allende hotels blend in with their colonial surroundings, making use of natural building materials and the large signature Mexico gardens. Many of the best boutiques can be found just blocks from the El Jardín square. World class restaurants and wine bars, luxurious bedding, relaxing patios and Jacuzzi tubs are the standard for San Miguel de Allende hotels.

Of course, San Miguel de Allende hotels are just one of the many accommodation options travelers have. Many decide to rent a private residence for $150 - $10,000/week, depending on the home and the number of bedrooms. They range from quaint, colorful couple bungalows to enormous historic relic mansions with sixteen bedrooms and even more bathrooms, swimming pools and breathtaking views of the Parroquia. The frugal traveler often chooses to stay at one of the high-quality hostels like Hostel Alcatraz or Iron House Hostel. Other travelers prefer the hospitality and ambiance of a bed and breakfast, which there are many throughout San Miguel de Allende.

Guests who stay in San Miguel de Allende hotels will have much to see and do while they’re visiting. Whether it’s music, theater, museums, art, festivals, dining, shopping or sightseeing, this little Mexican town has it all.
